Varistor Ceramic
 
Varistor-ceramic belongs to the group of passive electronic component parts. One of the remarkable features of this polycrystalline ceramic of Zinc oxide and other metal oxide additives is an extreme non-linearity of the electrical resistance. Therefore this ceramic is highly appropriate for the limitation of overloads.

Material
  This material consists of Zinc oxide (about 90%) which is obtained by the oxidation of Zinc and other metal oxides like bismuth trioxide, antimonic anhydride, manganese oxide and chromium oxide.

Production
  The raw material are ground, mixed and granulated by spraying. shapes are made by dry pressing. The parts are sintered according to a fixed programme. Bonding is achieved by screen printing with silver, or after a grinding process, by flame spraying with Alumina. The varistors can be equipped with connections and wrapped in epoxy resin.

Characteristics
Varistors are component parts, which show at increasing voltage an exponential decreasing resistance. A doubling of the voltage may lead to a 10 fold increase in current. Due to this these component parts are highly appropriate for protection against overloads.

Applications
Varistors from Rauschert can be used as protection against overloads in installations and appliances and are appropriate for the construction of over-voltage limiters with performance rate C.
