Magnesium oxide
 
Magnesium oxide is in the material group for high temperature ceramics.

It has excellent electrical insulating properties even at high temperatures, a high thermal conductivity and metling point.

Magnesium oxide is ideal for use in sheath and high watt density cartridge heaters, thermocouples, heating cables and glow plugs.


Material
 

Magnesium oxide is obtained from seawater or by mining from magnesite deposits (magnesite), which are the result of vaporisation of water.

The purest form of Magnesium oxide is obtained by processing at high temperatures.

Depending on the application Rauschert offers MgO purities of 90% - > 99% and also a selcetion of grain sizes to suit the application (information on request).

Porous Steatie and Alumina are also available.


Production
MgO products are normally produced by extrusion and can have various shapes and numbers of holes. The parts are then dried, cut to length and sintered.

The hardness of the MgO product can be varied to suit the application.

Applications
  Due to its high thermal conductivity, excellent electrical insulation and high melting point MgO is suitable for high temperature applications.

The MgO shapes produced can be supplied in the hard form for heaters and high watt density cartridge heaters or in crushable form for thermocouple, heater cables, fire resistant cables and glow plugs.

The shapes formed maintain the separation distance between each conductor, conductor heating element and sheath and also conductor to sheath and or thermocouple.

For quotations please send us a drawing of your part together with the purity of MgO, hardness required or application, tolerances and quantities.

If narrower tolerances are required the parts may have to be machined.
